Style Me Something Good! An Any-Age Style Lift

We all have transitional style moments, where we feel caught and maybe even frustrated with our closets. Here are two Today show viewers at different points in their lives, and yet both facing their own challenges in feeling out of sync with her style. See their full makeovers I did for Today’s Hoda & Jenna, and see how no matter your age, you can get a style lift!

JOI

Fashion expert Amy Goodman styles Joi for the Today Show

With a youthful glow and an effervescent personality, Joi complains of often being mistaken for a teenager though she is 24! Her typical sweats, hoodies and school-like backpacks certainly don’t help!

While giving her a more ensemble with mature finess, I still wanted to capture her zest and keep things punchy!

First, shearling is having such a warm and cozy moment but for Joi who lives in Texas, I could only give her a touch. So this updated jean jacket with white shearling trim is chic and upgrades a standard casual jean jacket up a notch.

Next, I love all the leathers this season for their sleek look and here a faux leather skirt in a creamy brown tone will work for her beyond this outfit: she’ll get a lot of wear out of it!

Lastly, the accessories: an orange chevron quilted small crossbody bag from Rebecca Minkoff features a chain strap and the white boots ankle boots fit beautifully: you want to make sure it’s not too loose in fit or it will weight down her bare, exposed legs.

PEGGY

Peggy says she is either way too casual or way too “red-carpet” dressy, so my goal for this newly retired Floridian was to hit that middle ground—and also lift her out of her everyday T-shirts and golf skirts.

I love the chain print tie-neck top, a power blouse if there ever was one; the tie is removable so she has the versatility to wear it with or without. A note that Chico’s is starting their Black Friday sale a little early for Today viewers with 40% off! Head to today.com/style for the code!

You’ll see that chains are indeed a theme, with gorgeous chain linked earrings and a chain necklace to match!

She is 5 3” and worried that a long jacket would weigh her down. But this ¾ length, faux leather coat makes her look taller! (The trend by the way is for the jacket to be so long that it dusts the floor! But keeping her height in mind, I think this is the perfect length.)

She said herself that she screamed when she saw the orange top-handle bag! Peggy isn’t afraid of color, but in not wearing it in the form of a bright-colored T-shirt, it adds a level of class and sophistication in this Italian Leather Satchel Bag: I love the embossment and the top handle is a bag that’s everywhere.

Lastly, lots of pointy-toed heels--it’s the shoe silhouette to look for and I love a block heel: it offers style and stability as she runs around to all of her social engagements in Florida or when she’s reunited with her grandson for the holidays in coming weeks!
