Halloween Fun & Games!

As we continue with our second Covid Halloween, here are DIY crafts and games as seen on Live! with Kelly & Ryan to make your Halloween gathering packed with fun and festivities, using things you have at home and can make easily all while playing it SAFE!

Too much fun on the set of Live with Kelly & Ryan!

JOLT A FRANKENSTEIN

A contactless way for kids (and adults) to trick-or-treat at your Halloween party.

Supplies:

  • Black foam board

  • Green, white, black tissue paper

  • Black & Red construction paper

  • Rubberbands

  • Small white party cups

  • Hot glue

  • Small kid-safe toys

I first took the cups and laid out my outline for my Frankenstein atop the foam board. Once you have that in place, glue down with about five hot glue dots per cup and secure cup to foam board. Fill each cup with small toys like temp tattoos, plastic dentures, Halloween stickers, spider rings and the like for a candy-free alternative.

Then for each cup, top with two squares of tissue paper and secure with a rubber band. Tip: pull the tissue paper down the sides of the cup so it is as flush as possible to the cup. This is where the green, white and black tissue paper is used to create the outline of Frankenstein.

I added construction paper eyes, black felt with a jagged cut for bangs and his signature eerie scar!

A guest then simply JOLTS the Frankenstein with a poke, and retrieves his/her/their treat!

DRAIN A DRACULA: This Dracula version is filled with retro candies (wax lips, candy necklaces, rock candy, dots.) that will be a hit with even adults!

TRUTH OR SCARE!

This Halloween version of Truth or Dare will have your guests on the edge of their seats, gasping in revealing their truths and fears!

As a host, I like to have these cards pre-filled out before guests arrive and placed in a cute Halloween Bucket. Here are examples of the cards…

TRUTH:

  • Tell me an extremely scary adventure you’d never try!

  • When was the scariest moment of your life?

  • What sound makes your spine tingle?

SCARE:

  • Howl like a werewolf every time someone says your name until your next turn!

  • Play dead.

  • Tell a Halloween joke that makes us laugh.

Or you can have guests put pen to paper when they walk through the door for a truly unexpected game! Last year we did Halloween Charades on the show? And my kids played it throughout the year, they loved it so much. I love this SCARE version of this game so much! Here’s the PDF below to download and print at home:

SCAREDY-CAT TOSS!

My black cat pumpkin is super hungry for his skeleton fish! But before we play the game, we gotta make it!

Supplies:

  • Two Large Pumpkins

  • Black spray paint

  • Orange Pipe cleaners whiskers

  • Black Construction Paper Ears

  • Black electrical tape to attach ears or Scotch Tape

  • Googly Eyes from a craft store or Construction Paper Eyes

  • Black boa for tail

  • Glue Guns

Spray paint two pumpkins (that can stack stably atop each other) black. Allow to dry for at least 1 hour. Carve out mouth and stomach and remove pumpkin guts. Add ears, eyes, whiskers and tail using supplies you have with hot glue or shipping tape. I used black electrical tape for the kitty’s ears as it is less visible.

Fish Skeletons

  • Black balloons

  • 2 Funnels

  • Dry rice

  • Chopsticks

  • White Paint Pens

  • Clear Bowl

Attach one black balloon to a funnel and fill with about 1/2 a cup of dry rice. To get the rice into the balloon body, use a chopstick to push rice down. Tie it secure. Use a white paint pen to draw on skeleton image of fish or any image you like: skulls, ghosts, etc.

I just want to add that we are not going for perfectionism; I’m a perfectionist in recovery! You can use ANY COLOR balloons, draw any images you like…just have fun. My son kept running off with the rice tossers (he thought they were stress balls!) and even my cat, convincingly ran off with one IN HIS MOUTH as he thought it was his cat toy!

Toki Kitty found his spot next to Scaredy Cat!

FISHING FOR APPLES

This is a safer alternative to bobbing for apples!

Kelly successfully hooks her apple!

Supplies

  • 2 buckets or 2 large cauldrons

  • Long branches

  • Thin, textured rope

  • Hooks - I used plastic hooks so if kids swing around, no one gets hurt!

  • Apples with stems

Create a fishing pole using a long branch and textured raffia string: it holds the knots better! Tie a loop to each apple stem using a small piece of string or rope and a simple knot. Float apples in water in a cauldron or bucket. Have kids/adults compete to see how many apples they can fish out of the bucket in a set period of time!

Have a separate bowl of freshly washed apples nearby for consumption!

GIVE THE WITCH HER BROOM!

No witch can fly without her broomstick! This Halloween version of pin the tail on the donkey will have you soaring to wicked heights!

Supplies:

  • Black foam board

  • Yellow poster board for moon

  • Black thin poster board

  • Scissors

  • Glue/double stick tape

  • Clean Bandanas

  • Brooms: brown/blue card stock or construction paper

You can draw a witch on a poster board or do a silhouette of him or her by rough sketching her as I did, then glue her onto a poster or foam board, cut out some broomsticks backed with sticky tape. Pass out new, clean bandanas to all participants, give them a dizzying spin, and have them try their hand at giving the witch her broomstick!

CANDY CORN CATCHERS!

Instead of a pinata, try this candy corn catcher game that will have guests scrambling to catch the most candy in a given countdown. The one with the most candy wins!

Supplies:

  • White & yellow spray paint

  • Painters tape or cardboard cut out

  • Orange cones, purchased

  • Bowl of hard candies

Section off the middle of a hazard cone with blue painter’s tape or a cardboard cutout to retain orange. Spray paint top white, and bottom part of cone yellow. Tip: I found spraying lightly once, waiting 30 minutes, followed by a second spray worked best to avoid dripping paint. After completely dry, remove the middle body to reveal a white, orange, yellow candy corn cone!

Now, have guests FLIP their cones to catch candies!
